Overview

Our traumaplasty program was developed in 2013 in addition to our existing North Star Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship. We partner with the University of Minnesota, Regions Hospital and Allina. The Combined Adult Reconstruction & Trauma Fellowship experience is a 12 month unique training in both the operative and clinical management of adult reconstruction combined with orthopaedic trauma. The program places an emphasis on all aspects of adult reconstruction surgery including primary and revision joint replacement, post-traumatic hip and knee reconstruction as well as simple and complex orthopaedic trauma including periprosthetic fractures.

Information

The Fellow will participate in 2 rotations during the fellowship year spending a total of 6 months per rotation. The rotations will alternate every three months and will include Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, TRIA Orthopedics in Woodbury, Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and United Hospital in St. Paul.

Goal

The goal of our fellowship is to provide a career bridge to fellowship graduates which would allow them to practice in a multitude of professional settings from competitive academic centers to private clinical practices. Therefore, they will graduate clinically competent, and confident to manage the variety of real world clinical trauma challenges. Conferences

In addition to the above listed lecture schedule we have implemented the Business Practice Management Series. The goal is to begin familiarization with new expectations placed on providers to take citizenship and leadership responsibility within the world of healthcare, and to recognize the pivotal role for physicians in this new era. This series is broken down into six categories relating to Medical Models, Life Satisfaction, Leadership Skills, Value in Medicine, Orthopaedic Leadership. It requires the fellows to meet with each of the surgeons one time in a casual setting to enhance their practice as they start their career as an attending Surgeon.

Cadaver Labs

The Combined Adult Reconstruction/Trauma program offers multiple opportunities for participation in cadaveric workshops dedicated to both adult reconstruction and trauma. These workshops are full day hands on dissection with designated faculty allowing our fellows to better understand rational for applied surgical approaches, exposure and instrumentation as well as to demonstrate concepts that may not be able to be demonstrated in the surgical setting.
